MIXING
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the CIMZIA
Allow CMIZIA to reach room temperature before reconstitution
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end
You will need sterile water, alcohol swabs, 20-gauge reconstitution needle(s), 23 gauge dosing needle(s), 3 ml syringe
Add 1 ml of sterile water for injection, USP, per vial. Use the 20-gauge needle provided
Direct the sterile water on the vial wall rather than directly on CIMZA.
Gently swirl each vial for about 1 minute, do not shake.Â
Continue swirling every 5 minutes as long as non-dissolved particles are observed. Full reconstitution may take as long as 30 minutes.Â
The final reconstituted solution contains 200 mg/ml and should be a clear to opalescent, colorless to pale yellow liquid essential free form particles.
CIMZIA should not be left at room temperature after reconstitution for more than 2 hours prior to administration.
ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment.
Withdraw the reconstituted solution into a separate syringe for each vial using a new 20-gauge needle for each vial so that each syringe contains 1 ml of CMIZIA (200 mg).
Replace the 20-gauge needle(s) on the syringe(s) with a 23-gauge needle(s) for administration.
Scrub the site with alcohol and inject the full contents of the syringe(s) subcutaneously, by pinching the skin of the abdomen or thigh.
Where a 400 mg dose is required, 2 injections are required, therefore, separate sites should be used for each 200 mg injection.
Record vitals 5-10 minutes post injection(s).
Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used.
Place Band-Aid at site if needed.
Clean and dispose of used supplies
