MIXING
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end.Â
You will need IV start supplies, NS bg (50 ml or 100 ml depending on dose), IV tubing with 0.2 μm in-line filter
Withdraw and discard a volume of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP equal to the calculated volume of the COSENTYX solution required for the patient’s dose
COSENTYX comes in 5 ml vials
From the vial(s), withdraw the calculated volume (mL) of COSENTYX solution and add slowly into the 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP infusion bag
To mix the solution, gently invert the bag to avoid foaming, do not shake
Discard any unused product
ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment
Infuse over 30 minutes
100 ml bag: about 3.3 ml/min (198 ml/hr)
50 ml bag: about 1.7 ml/min (102 ml/hr)
Monitor patient for any adverse reactions
Record vitals every 15 minutes for the first hour, then hourly AND 5-10 minutes post infusion
Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used
Flush line with saline after infusion
Disconnect patient, flush line, and remove IV
Place pressure bandage at site
Clean and dispose of used supplies
