MIXING
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the ELAPRASE
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end.Â
You will need: medication vials, IV start supplies, alcohol, NS flush, IV tubing with low-protein-binding 0.2 micrometer (μm) in-line filter, syringe and needle, bag of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, 50 ml bag of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, sharps container
Draw up the required volume of ELAPRASE from the appropriate number of vials
Add the ELAPRASE to the NS bag
Mix gently, do not shake
ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment
Spike the medication with IV tubing that has a low-protein-binding 0.2 micrometer (µm) in-line filter and prime tubing
Infuse the total volume over a period of 3 hours
Start at 8ml/hr for 15 minutes
If tolerates well, rate may be increased by 8ml/hr q 15 minutes
Infusion rate NOT to exceed 100ml/hr
May slow down for infusion reactions but total infusion time should not exceed 8 hours
Monitor patient for any adverse reactions
Record vitals every 15 minutes after infusion start, AND 5-10 minutes post infusion
Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used
After the ELAPRASE solution infused, remove drug bag from IV administration set and replace with 50 mL bag of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP
Flush through the volume of drug remaining in the IV tubing to ensure full dosing
Disconnect patient and remove IV
Place pressure bandage at site
Clean and dispose of used supplies
