IMAAVY (IV)

MIXING

  1. Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the IMAAVY

  2. Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end.

    • You will need IV start supplies, micron filter 0.2 micrometer or less, gravity tubing, syringe, needle, NS bag,

  3. Gently withdraw the calculated volume of IMAAVY from the vial.  Discard any unused portion of the vials.

  4. Dilute total volume of IMAAVY withdrawn by adding to an infusion container containing 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, to a final volume of 250 ml for patients who weight 40 kg or more, or 1000 ml for patients who weigh less than 40 kg.  Only use infusion containers made of polyolefin, polypropylene or polyvinylchloride. 

  5. Gently invert the infusion container at least 10 times to mix the solution. DO NOT SHAKE.  Must be at room temperature before infusing patient.

  6. Verify that a uniform solution has been achieved by visual inspection.  Do not use if particulate matter or discoloration is present

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment.

  2. Administer IMAAVY infusion IV over at least 30 minutes for the initial dose ( 30 mg/kg) and at least over 15 minutes for subsequent doses (15 mg/kg).

  3. Record vitals every 15 minutes for the first hour, then 5-10 minutes post infusion.

  4. Monitor the patient for 30 minutes after each infusion for signs or symptoms of an infusion-related or hypersensitivity reaction.

  5. Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used.

  6. When infusion completed, disconnect patient and flush line.

  7. After 30 minutes monitoring period remove IV.

    • Place pressure bandage at site. 

  8. Clean and dispose of used supplies.
