MIXING
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the INJECTAFER
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end.Â
You will need IV start supplies, IV tubing, infusion bag, needle and syringe
Draw up the INJECTAFER and dilute up to 750 mg of INJECTAFER in up to 250 mL (but not more) of sterile 0.9% sodium chloride injection, USP, such that the concentration of the infusion is not less than 2 mg of iron per mL
INJECTAFER may be administered as an undiluted slow IV push, read orders carefully
ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment.
Infuse over at least 15 minutes
If orders are for slow IVP give at the rate of approximately 100 mg (2 mL) per minute
Record vitals every 15 minutes AND 5-10 minutes post infusion.
Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used.
Disconnect patient, flush line, and remove IV. Place pressure bandage at site.Â
Clean and dispose of used supplies.
