MIXING
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the RIABNI
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end.
You will need:Â IV start/ port access supplies, a syringe and needle, bag of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP or 5% Dextrose Injection, USP (either 250 ml bag or 500 ml bag for dilution), and tubing (gravity tubing or pump tubing if using a pump).
Determine the volume of RIABNI to be infused. Remove and discard that volume from the infusion bag
Draw up the prescribed dose of RIABNI in a syringe
Inject the RIABNI into the dilution bag
Gently mix. DO NOT shake
Spike the IV bag with the proper pump or gravity tubing
ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment
Infuse RIABNI as ordered by pharmacy with a step-up rate.
Record vitals every 15 minutes after infusion start, then with each titration, then hourly, AND 5-10 minutes post infusion.
Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used.
Disconnect patient, flush line, and remove IV
Place pressure bandage at site
Clean and dispose of used supplies
