MIXING

  1. Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the medication. Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end. You will need IV start/ port access supplies, 50 ml or 100 ml bag of Normal Saline for dilution, tubing (gravity tubing or pump tubing if using a pump).

  2. Saphnelo is supplied as a single-dose, 2 ml vial, containing 300 mg of medication.

  3. Visually inspect the vial for particulate matter and discoloration. Saphnelo is a clear to opalescent and colorless to slightly yellow solution. Do not use and discard the vial if the solution is cloudy, discolored, or contains particles. Do not shake vial.

  4. Withdraw and discard 2 ml of solution from a 50 ml 100 ml of solution from a 50 ml or 100ml Normal Saline bag.

  5. Withdraw 2 ml from the Saphenelo vial and add to the infusion bag.

  6. Mix the solution by gently inverting the bag. Do not shake the bag. Each vial is intended for single use only.

  7. Administer the infusion solution immediately after preparation. If the solution is not administered immediately, store the diluted solution at room temperature for up to 4 hours or for up to 24 hours refrigerated.


ADMINISTRATION

  1. Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment.

  2. Infuse Vyepti over 30 minutes or per order.

  3. Record vitals 15 minutes after infusion start AND at infusion end. You should have a minimum of 3 sets of vitals recorded.

  4. Please remember to record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used.

  5. Disconnect patient, flush line with 25 ml of Normal Saline after infusion complete, and remove IV, place a pressure bandage at site. Clean and dispose of used supplies
