ALWAYS reach out to us first (not the Pharmacy) with any questions
NEVER tell a Pt you have not given a particular medication before
MIXING
Simponi Aria comes in single-use 50mg vials which yield a liquid volume of 4ml.
The solution should appear colorless to light yellow. The solution may develop a few fine translucent particles as it is a protein. Do not use if opaque particles, discoloration, or other foreign particles are present.
Determine the number of vials needed to make up the dose per the orders.
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the medication.
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end.Â
You will need IV start/port access supplies, a syringe and needle, 100 ml bag of Normal Saline for dilution, tubing (gravity tubing or pump tubing if using a pump), low protein-binding filter (0.22 microns or less in size).
Draw up the prescribed dose in a syringe. The medication will need to be further diluted with Normal Saline.
Remove the volume of Normal Saline from the 100 ml infusion bag equal to the volume of the total volume of Simponi Aria.
For example, if you are drawing up 7ml of medication, you would remove 7ml of NS from the bag
The total volume of Normal Saline and the medication will equal 100 ml.
Inject the medication into the bag of Normal Saline. Gently mix. DO NOT shake.
Spike the IV bag with the pump or gravity tubing provided.
