MIXING
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the STELARA
STELARA Dosage Forms and Strengths
45 mg/0.5 ml in a single-dose vial
45 mg/0.5 ml solution in a single-dose prefilled syringe
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end.Â
3ml syringe, large gauge needle to draw up the medication from the vial, small gauge needle for the SC injection, alcohol, Band-Aid.
Draw up the medication into one vial using the syringe and the large gauge needle.
Remove the large gauge needle and place the small gauge needle on the end of the syringe.
ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment
Inject the STELARA In one of the following sites:
upper arms, gluteal regions, thighs, or any quadrant of abdomen
Rotate sites every visit
Monitor patient for any adverse reactions.
Record vitals 5-10 minutes post infusion.
Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used.
Clean and dispose of used supplies.
