MIXING

THIS MAY BE A PATIENT TEACH

(Confirm with Care Coordinator if patient teach or RN is to administer)

  1. Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the TEZSPIRE

  2. Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete injection.  You will need:

    • Pre-filled pen or syringe, alcohol wipe, cotton ball or gauze, bandage, Sharps container

  3. Allow TEZSPIRE to come to room temperature

  4. Remove pre-filled pen or syringe from carton by grabbing the middle of the body

  5. Check expiration date

  6. Look at the liquid through the viewing window

    •  The liquid should be clear and colorless to light yellow

    • There may be small air bubbles in the liquid; this is normal

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment

  2. Choose injection site

    • Recommended injection site is front of thighs or lower part of abdomen

    • Only a caregiver may inject in arm

  3. Clean injection site with alcohol and let air dry

  4. Start Injection

    PREFILLED PEN

    • Pull off cap by holding pre-filled pen body with 1 hand and pull cap straight off with other hand

    • Inject TEZSPIRE by holding orange needle guard against the skin at a 90-degree angle

      • Make sure viewing window can be seen

    • Press down firmly until orange needle guard cannot be seen

      • There will be a first ‘click’ that indicates injection has started

      • Orange plunger will move down in viewing window during injection

    •  Hold down firmly for about 15 seconds

      • There will be a second ‘click’ that indicates injection is finished

      • Orange plunder will fill viewing window

    • After completion of injection, lift pre-filled pen straight up

      • Orange needle guard will slide down and lock into place over needle

    • Check viewing window to make sure all medication has been injected

      • If the orange plunger does not fill the viewing window, the full dose has not been received, and healthcare provider must be contacted

    PREFILLED SYRINGE

    • Remove the needle cover

      • There may be a drop of liquid at the end of needle, and this is normal

    • Gently pinch skin and administer subcutaneously at approximately 45-degree angle into recommended injection site

      • Inject all mediation by pushing in plunger all the way until plunger head is completely between the needle guard activation clips

    •  After injection, maintain pressure on plunger head and remove needle from skin

      • Release pressure on plunger head to allow needle guard to cover needle

  5. Check injection site and gently hold pressure over skin with cotton ball or gauze until bleeding stopped

    • Do not rub site

    • Cover with bandage if needed

  6. Monitor patient for any adverse reactions

  7. Record vitals 5-10 minutes post infusion

  8. Record lot number and expiration date

  9. Clean and dispose of used supplies
