ALWAYSÂ make sure you have everything you need to complete infusion before you begin
ALWAYSÂ confirm your medication dose against the medication label and orders
ALWAYSÂ reach out to us first (not the Pharmacy) with any questions
NEVERÂ tell a Pt you have not given a particular medication before
MIXING
THIS MAY BE A PATIENT TEACH
(Confirm with Care Coordinator if patient teach or RN is to administer)
Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the TEZSPIRE
Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete injection. You will need:
Pre-filled pen or syringe, alcohol wipe, cotton ball or gauze, bandage, Sharps container
Allow TEZSPIRE to come to room temperature
Remove pre-filled pen or syringe from carton by grabbing the middle of the body
Check expiration date
Look at the liquid through the viewing window
 The liquid should be clear and colorless to light yellow
There may be small air bubbles in the liquid; this is normal
ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment
Choose injection site
Recommended injection site is front of thighs or lower part of abdomen
Only a caregiver may inject in arm
Clean injection site with alcohol and let air dry
Start Injection
PREFILLED PEN
Pull off cap by holding pre-filled pen body with 1 hand and pull cap straight off with other hand
Inject TEZSPIRE by holding orange needle guard against the skin at a 90-degree angle
Make sure viewing window can be seen
Press down firmly until orange needle guard cannot be seen
There will be a first ‘click’ that indicates injection has started
Orange plunger will move down in viewing window during injection
 Hold down firmly for about 15 seconds
There will be a second ‘click’ that indicates injection is finished
Orange plunder will fill viewing window
After completion of injection, lift pre-filled pen straight up
Orange needle guard will slide down and lock into place over needle
Check viewing window to make sure all medication has been injected
If the orange plunger does not fill the viewing window, the full dose has not been received, and healthcare provider must be contacted
PREFILLED SYRINGE
Remove the needle cover
There may be a drop of liquid at the end of needle, and this is normal
Gently pinch skin and administer subcutaneously at approximately 45-degree angle into recommended injection site
Inject all mediation by pushing in plunger all the way until plunger head is completely between the needle guard activation clips
 After injection, maintain pressure on plunger head and remove needle from skin
Release pressure on plunger head to allow needle guard to cover needle
Check injection site and gently hold pressure over skin with cotton ball or gauze until bleeding stopped
Do not rub site
Cover with bandage if needed
Monitor patient for any adverse reactions
Record vitals 5-10 minutes post infusion
Record lot number and expiration date
Clean and dispose of used supplies
