NEVER tell a Pt you have not given a particular medication before

MIXING

  1. Obtain a clear/clean space to prepare the medication. Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end. You will need IV start/ port access supplies, 100 ml bag of Normal Saline for dilution, tubing (gravity tubing or pump tubing if using a pump)an IV set with 0.2 or 0.22 in-line or add-on sterile filter, and Normal Saline for flushing (please note this med is to be flushed with 20 ml of Saline).

  2. Vyepti comes in single-use 100mg/ml vials which yield a liquid volume of 1ml. Determine the number of vials needed to make up the dose per the Orders. Vyepti is a clear to slightly opalescent, colorless to brownish-yellow solution.

  3. Draw up the prescribed dose in a syringe. Inject the medication volume into the 100ml bag of Normal Saline for dilution. Gently mix. DO NOT shake.

  4. Spike the IV bag with the proper pump or gravity tubing.

ADMINISTRATION


  1. Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment.

  2. Infuse Vyepti over 30 minutes or per order.

  3. Record vitals 15 minutes after infusion start AND at infusion end. You should have a minimum of 3 sets of vitals recorded.

  4. Please remember to record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used.

  5. Disconnect patient, flush line with 20 ml of Normal Saline after infusion complete, and remove IV, place a pressure bandage at site. Clean and dispose of used supplies
