Be sure all the necessary supplies are available to complete infusion from beginning to end. You will need: medication (vial or a prefilled syringe), syringe, needle(s), alcohol, cotton balls or gauze pads, bandage and sharps container
Prepare medication
If a vial, draw up the prescribed dose
If prefilled syringe, see instructions in box or link below

ADMINISTRATION
Take baseline vitals and document basic assessment
Prepare injection site, clean with alcohol and allow to dry
Abdomen, buttocks and upper thighs
A caregiver may give in the outer area of upper arms
Inject at a 45-degree angle
Monitor patient for any adverse reactions
Record vitals 5-10 minutes post injection
Record lot numbers and expiration dates for vials used
Place pressure bandage at site if needed
Clean and dispose of used supplies
